Everyone is talking about the regenerative effects of polynucleotides, making them the hottest topic in aesthetic medicine right now. Polynucleotides present a significant innovation, dare we say a game-changer, compared to traditional cosmetic injectable treatments. Keep reading to find out how we harness these unique molecules and combine them with other regenerative treatments to maximise skin rejuvenation and skin health.
First and foremost, polynucleotides are not dermal fillers; they are known as bio-regenerators, bio-stimulators, or bio-revitalisers because they have a natural stimulatory effect on the body to kick-start improvements in skin quality and achieve a more youthful appearance.
What are polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are naturally occurring molecules – chains of nucleotides – found in all living cells; their job is cell repair and regeneration. Did you know that chains of polynucleotides form the building blocks of our DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (Ribonucleic acid), which are essential for genetic information and many biological functions?
At Revere, we use specially synthesised polynucleotide injectable products that contain long chains of highly purified DNA fragments sourced from salmon or trout. Several products are available, each containing high molecular weight polynucleotides at different concentrations for different indications targeted to regenerate both young and more mature skin types.
Scientists chose salmon and trout as sources because they also contain a protein high in arginine, an amino acid that has proven regenerative effects on the skin; but don’t worry, there’s nothing fishy about them!
How do polynucleotides work?
Unlike dermal fillers used to contour, augment, or add back lost volume, polynucleotides encourage repair, restoration, and rejuvenation of tissue. Their targeted placement improves skin elasticity and hydration, reduces inflammation, and stimulates new skin cell production. They are suitable for use in the face, scalp, and body.
Once injected, the DNA fragments are slowly integrated into your dermis (skin tissue), where they get to work, signalling a wound-healing response from your cells. They start the repair process by stimulating fibroblast (skin cell) activity and proliferation, causing collagen production to ramp up and hydration levels to rise; skin becomes visibly more elastic, with improved tone and texture and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
The ability to stimulate tissue repair means that polynucleotides can also improve uneven skin tone, irregular skin discolouration (dyschromia), and textural concerns, including scarring and stretch marks. The increased skin cell activity also results in a mild increase in tissue volume and skin tightening from improved elasticity.
Polynucleotides also have an anti-free radical action, much like a vacuum cleaner, scavenging free radicals that may have accumulated through sun damage, stress, or other exogenous lifestyle or environmental causes that can lead to cellular damage to the skin if left to their own devices.
Results are not instant because we must allow time for the bio-stimulatory effect; you should expect improvements in skin quality to be gradual and incremental, with changes noticeable within the first month.
How do we do things a little differently?
At Revere, we have reduced the need for multiple polynucleotide treatment sessions with our unique P2-P5 protocols, including our P5 Regenerative Facials which incorporate other targeted, regenerative treatments for longer-lasting and cumulative results, achieving skin rejuvenation at a cellular level. We are also dedicated to delivering treatments with applications beyond traditional aesthetic practice and skin rejuvenation, treating medical indications, including burns and ulcers, with our combined regenerative solutions.
What are P2-P5 protocols?
Revere’s very own Dr Sach Mohan has scientifically designed the pinnacle of skin rejuvenation approaches, combining up to five innovative energy-based and biopolymer regenerative treatments into a bespoke P2-P5 treatment programme of Polynucleotides, Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), Peptides, Profhilo, and Pico Genesis.
- Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) injections harness the natural healing and regenerative power of your body’s platelets, stem cells, growth factors, and leukocytes (white blood cells or immune cells) collected and concentrated from a blood sample and then reinjected to the target area.
- Peptides (amino acids) are essential for promoting and maintaining healthy skin and skin hydration; supplementation provides crucial building blocks to help with new collagen formation to build skin resilience.
- Profhilo contains a uniquely stabilised injectable hybrid complex of low- and high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid for bio-remodelling. Unlike dermal fillers, Profhilo is a bio-stimulator that stimulates the production of four different types of collagen and elastin to improve skin laxity with a lifting and tightening effect.
- Pico Genesis is a cutting-edge, fractional, pico-second laser that breaks down unwanted pigmentation to even out skin tone and stimulates collagen and elastin production. The laser creates micro-trauma points, making tiny vacuoles (spaces within a cell), which are helpful for two reasons. Firstly, the micro-trauma signals the body to produce a wound-healing response that encourages new, healthy tissue formation (minus pigmentation). Secondly, the vacuoles or pockets created are perfect for improving skin hydration, helping the dermis to retain the active injectable components more easily, like Profhilo, PRF, and polynucleotides, optimising their efficiency and efficacy.
Alongside our hero product – Polynucleotides – a bespoke programme of regenerative Ps can be tailored specifically to your skin needs, from P2 to P5. By combining treatments, we optimise their activity, speeding up and improving the overall results you can expect. What’s not to love about that?
The P5 protocol can stimulate structures beneath the skin. We are finding that many of our patients also achieve volume restoration through the stimulation of preadipocyte cells or fat cell precursors that go on to become fat cells. Treatment outcomes are cumulative and long-lasting, with repeat treatments usually every 4-6 months to maintain and augment results. However, we are seeing some permanent changes with scarring, even after one session.
